As I said before its all down to personal taste. You can also use the imon remote to work with loads of other programs including the mouse/cursor control.Īlso a MS media remote and ir receiver costs £25 and you have to have a dongle hanging out of the back for the case via usb. ) A HTPC case for me is all about looks rather than performance.
If I didnt care about looks then I would of bought a normal pc case (better cooling, more space for drives etc. I also knew this before I bought the case with display. I dont care that it doesnt control my pc I have a keyboard, mouse and remote control (nevo) for that. Its only £25 and it finishes off the case. Stop taking my opinion of your purchase as 'bashing'. A VFD with TSR/service which hides in task bar, that links to Winamp, basically like Slimserver and allows music playback is useful. If a HTPC came with VFD I'll disable it (distracting blue) Like I said, if you can use it to control music playback then it is worth it.īut afaik you can't, reason why I bought the squeezebox V3. A VFD isn't worth the cash, if a DVD-Video player came with a VFD, and another model was identical but without VFD I'll buy the cheaper DVD player.
It's easier to setup on the TV itself (Lexicon MC-1_ List what the VFD does. It's not like you can control computer with it, or can you? My AV-pre amp has VFD, but guess what that's disabled as well. My guess would be that there will be a new version of the VFD coming.Ĭlick to expand.I'm not getting 'angry' I'm giving my opinion that it does nothing useful, except add a cosmetic finish to it. Their latest product is the SoundGraph iMON 2.4G. You should be more open minded to other options instead of jumping in with your biased opinions and rubbishing other peoples choices. Just because something is not your prefered choice of equipment doesn't mean it won't suit someone else very well. Click to expand.Well, it just so happens my Silverstone case of choice came with the imon VFD and remote, do you suggest I don't make use of it? My HTPC is on show and not in a cupboard so the clock on the VFD is very useful as it's the only clock in my lounge, and other people in this thread have stated they find the VFD useful. But what exactly does the imon VFD do that's useful in a HTPC? Considering you're looking at the TV, not the HTPC case (which could be located out of view, so a built in Ir could actually be interior method, a IR dongle on a long lead could be better).
If a imon could do the same thing mounted in the PC, but be independant (and invisible in use to the GUI) then be useful. The Squeezebox is a media streamer with a large VFD, you can browse and play music. The MCE remote is in the cupboard and I use a URC MX-700 which is slightly better than the imon remote if I need (and have) more IR codes I just import them into the MX editor. lol.Click to expand. You can't, and I don't care. I will have to plug it in again if I want to change the colour of the logo.
Problem solved, except that I have to use ASUS's own software from here on and not corsairs. I also have the fans controlled during startup using the fan controller in the BIOS.
So now I dont have the USB plugged in and have the two fans connected via a different Y splitter that go into the CPU_OPT fan port and use ASUS's own "fan expert" software supplied within the AI suite. It was this USB device which has caused the delayed startus. This allows you to control fan speeds, corsair logo light colour on the head unit and also record/graph statistics, temperatures and fan speeds. Furthermore, there is a USB cable which plugs into the pump head unit and the other end into an empty SATA 2.0 internal header on your motherboard. The power to the unit, is supplied using an SATA power supply adapter and also has a 3 pin fan type power plug to attach to the CPU_FAN header which would normally have the CPU heatsink plugged into. The two fans plug into a Y splitter cable which in turn connects into the pump head unit which is mounted on the CPU. This unit has a single radiator sandwiched between two fans. It was the Corsair H80i closed loop water cooler that was the problem.
